Valeriano Ruiz Hernández, along with his university career where he directs the Group of Thermodynamics and Renewable Energies (GTER), a research group of this University, also attached to the Association of Industrial Research and Cooperation of Andalusia (AICIA),
Performs various functions in other institutions related to solar energy and research in this field, such as the following:
• Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the "Advanced Technological Center for Renewable Energies" Foundation (CTAER) on behalf of the Andalusian Innovation Agency (IDEA), of which, among others, the Andalusian Energy Agency, belonging to the Government of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, and the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), under the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Science and Innovation, together with the leading companies in the sector.
• President of the association PROTERMOSOLAR (Spanish business association of the solar thermal industry). Previously, he has also worked, among others, as the initial Director of the New Energy Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (1977-1979), President of the SODEAN Board of Directors (Society for Energy Development of Andalusia, 1991-1995), of the company ISOFOTÓN, SA, and of the Association for the Development of Solar and Alternative Energy of Andalusia, ADESA (1980-1991). He has extensive and dynamic teaching experience at both the University (University of Seville, International University of Andalusia (UNIA), University of Huelva, Pablo de Olavide University (UPO), Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), the University of Cádiz, the San Pablo Ceu University, the National University of Distance Education (UNED) as well as other organizations among which are: Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, La Casa Encendida (Cajamadrid), the Friends of Doñana Foundation, and the Agency of the Seville energy.
Director of more than 20 doctoral theses and as many masters and final projects. As a researcher in solar hybrid systems and solar thermal power, he has three patents:
• "Passive and Self-supporting Refrigerator Photovoltaic Module" (Inventors: Lillo Bravo, I., and Ruiz Hernández, V .; Concession Publication: 06/16/2008; No.: P200600057).
· Low Cost Solar Collector" (April Hernández, JM, Granged Pascual, A., Ruiz Hernández, Cámara Zapata, JM, and Martínez Gabarrón, A.; Application: 03/30/2006; Nº: P200600891) .
· "Solar termal energía collection system" (Ruiz Hernández, Valeriano; Lobo Márquez, Gonzalo; Diaz Andrades, Francisco; Lillo Bravo, Isidoro; Silva Pérez, Manuel Antonio and del Pozo Polidoro, Enrique); aplicación PCT / ES2011 / 070252. It actively participates in a large number of commissions, forums and groups of experts in general, dedicated to renewable energy.
Author of a good number of articles and other publications, both scientific and informative, on solar energy and renewable energy in general. Regular speaker at conferences and round tables, both in Spain and internationally, especially in Latin American countries.

• Lifetime Achievement Award Solar PACES 2010 (International Cooperation Organization under the tutelage of the International Energy Agency -IEA-).
• Lifetime Achievement Award CSP Today 2009. 3rd Annual International Concentrated Solar Thermal Power.
• Award of Solar PACES 2006 (International Cooperation Organization under the tutelage of the International Energy Agency -IEA-).
• 2006 City of Seville Energy Award for Professional Career (Energy Agency of the City Council of Seville).
• 2004 Sol y Paz Award for Divulgate Labor (CENSOLAR and Fundació Terra).
• Great Cross to Aeronautical Merit, for scientific collaboration with INTA (National Institute of Aerospace Technology.
• Honorary partner of the associations: Industrial Engineers of Western Andalusia, ASIF (Spanish Photovoltaic Industry Association), ASIT (Spanish Thermal Industry Association), ADESA (Association for Solar Energy Development and Alternatives in Andalusia).
